Picture the scene: It's getting late, the deadline is fast approaching and an email arrives from your boss. It's an update to the project at what feels like the 11th hour. You open the link they sent and....
Your laptop is now encrypted and you are locked out. The screen has a single message demanding crypto coin to unlock it.
In 2020, Sophos reported that 56% of organisations worldwide were attacked with Ransomware. 73% of these attacks resulted in criminals encrypting organisational data.
The average cost of attack to smaller business was over $761,000. For many, this would be a crippling cost.
So how do we prevent it? A 'Defence-in-depth' approach is best. This means having multiple layers of security so you don't have a single point of failure. However, starting at the most vulnerable point, your employees and their devices, either phones or laptops, can have the biggest impact.
According to Cybsafe, your employees are the weakest link in the security chain and how they use their devices has the biggest impact.
So, by combining security training (and yes, there are ways of making it interesting and not boring!) with automated device management, you can have an enormous impact om the security and safety of your data.
Device Management with Microsoft 365 & Intune
There are any number of Device Management solutions out there, but here we are going to concentrate on Microsoft Intune. If you have a Microsoft 365 licences, you already have Intune. This allows you to remotely manage all of your Windows 10/11 machines, Android and iOS devices, ensure they are up to date with security patches, protected with Anti-malware and in the event of the device being lost or stolen, remotely wipe the data and return them to factory settings.
If your organisation requires additional levels of compliance, Intune can provide real-time compliance reports for audit purposes.
